Kindergarten

The PATCH organization was founded in 1996 and has operated continuously thereafter. PATCH has an annual budget that fluctuates depending on the grants awarded and programs sponsored. The current program is the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program for community youth. The program also provides After-school programming in the areas of Appalachian Heritage, West Virginia Culture, technology, arts and culture, physical fitness and nutrition, entrepreneurial and job skills, and academic improvement that will be provided at WVDE approved schools in Roane, Jackson, and Mason County. The youth center located in the Roane County Committee on Aging building in Spencer is host to several entrepreneurial programs. In the past years PATCH 21st CCLC offered over 193 different programs at the 24 county schools and the youth center as well as 13 different summer programs. In addition PATCH 21st CCLC developed and hosted two Student Leadership Academies and one Science Camp that were held free of charge to all students. All programs feature free materials and supplies, a U.S.D.A. approved snack, and a healthy refreshment drink. This program focuses on targeted at-risk youth and families. The PATCH 21st Century Community Learning Centers has a full time fiscal officer and all financial statements are audited to legislative standards on both the state and federal guidelines. The program currently serves 1,500students in Roane, Jackson, and Mason Counties. PATCH is currently re-writing the mission to reinvent the after school aspects of serving at-risk students along with developing aspects of the program to focus on student efficacy, health, community, and character. Before a child can learn and be productive, they must have a solid foundation of social, emotional, and behaviorial well-being. PATCH looks to provide that for the 21st century.
